Coastside Wedding Location: The Methodist Church Chapel – Half Moon Bay – Coastside

Written by Terry Plank on . Posted in Ceremony Locations - Half Moon Bay Coastside

The San Mateo County Coastside offers a few choices for an intimate indoor wedding ceremony.

The Methodist Church Chapel is a historic chapel located in downtown Half Moon Bay, which provides a quaint intimate indoor setting for your wedding. It is the oldest operating church in San Mateo County and can accommodate up to 100 guests. It is not necessary for you to be an official member of the church to be married there.

The chapel is adorned with beautiful stained glass windows designed by one of its members, Robert Fitzpatrick. Each window is specifically designed based on a hymn chosen by the person who commissioned each window.

The chapel was originally built in 1872. When it was built, men and women weren’t allowed to sit together so the chapel is unique in that it has two aisles; 1 on the left and one on the right , rather than having a center aisle. For the wedding ceremony the Bride enters from the north door of the chapel and once married departs down the south side signifying she is now part of the groom’s family.

The Chapel has crystal chandeliers that were once oil burners but are now electrified. Many furnishing are original pieces and the bell added in 1907 is still in the cupola, repaired in 1996 and can sometimes be heard on Sunday mornings.

For more information or to arrange for the use of the Chapel go to http://www.cumc-hmb.com/html/weddings.html or call the church hostess, Danise Conrad, at 650-726-4621.
